Toyota Safety Sense Features
How, exactly, does TSS work? The innovative Toyota Safety Sense is designed to keep drivers, passengers, and pedestrians safe from the three most common types of collisions: frontal, drivers drifting from their lanes, and nighttime accidents. Explore the four active driver and safety assistance features of the Toyota Safety Sense suite:
- Pre-Collision System (PCS): The Pre-Collision System helps prevent frontal collisions by using a front-facing camera and radar system mounted on the grille as well as a low-light detection for pedestrians and daytime detection for cyclists. If the system senses that a frontal collision is approaching, it alerts the driver with both a visual and audible warning. If the driver doesn’t react, the PCS takes control of the brake and brings the vehicle to a stop, preventing an accident.
- Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC): Again utilizing the front-facing camera and radar system inside the grille, the Dynamic Radar Cruise Control scans the speed of the cars in front of you on Toms River roads. With this information, the DRCC maintains your pre-set distance and speed. Engineered especially for highway driving, your car will also adapt to the speed of vehicles around you, and once the traffic has eased up, the system will bring your vehicle back to the original pre-set speed.
- Lane-Departure Alert (LDA): The front-facing camera perceives lane changes like curbs, edges, and visible lane markings. Using the Multi-Information Display, the car’s driving status is displayed with illustrations showing colored lane markings. If the LDA judges that your car is drifting from the lane, an alert will notify you. Again, if no action is taken by the driver, Steering Assist is applied and guides the car back into the designated lane.
- Automatic High Beams (AHB): Designed to prevent nighttime accidents, Automatic High Beams reduce glare for other drivers and create better visibility for you driving on Long Branch roads. When the front-facing camera senses oncoming traffic, it switches from high to low beams.
