Toyota Highlander Service Schedule

Before we begin, it’s important to note that you should always consult your owner’s manual for specific service intervals, as the Toyota Highlander oil change frequency and other necessary maintenance tasks can vary depending on the model year, type of engine you have, and other factors. Here is just a general overview of what you can expect with your Toyota Highlander maintenance schedule:

Every 5,000 miles / 6 Months

  • Rotate tires
  • Check wiper blades
  • Inspect and adjust fluid levels
  • Check installation of driver’s floor mat
  • Visually inspect brake linings, drums, brake pads, and discs

If you often drive your Highlander in harsh or cold climates, on rough terrain, or in other demanding scenarios such as frequently taking short trips, you should also add the following services to your Toyota Highlander service schedule:

  • Inspect engine air filter
  • Inspect steering linkage and boots
  • Inspect drive shaft boots
  • 4WD: Re-torque propeller shaft bolt
  • Inspect ball joints and dust covers
  • Tighten nuts and bolts on chassis and body

Every 10,000 miles / 12 Months

Every 10,000 miles, you should bring your Toyota Highlander in for an oil change, oil filter replacement, and cabin air filter replacement. Oil is the lifeblood of your Toyota Highlander, so you don’t want to skip this interval.

Every 15,000 miles / 18 Months

  • Inspect engine coolant
  • Inspect drive shaft boots
  • Inspect exhaust pipes and mountings
  • Inspect radiator and condenser
  • Inspect steering gear
  • Inspect steering linkage and boots
  • Inspect ball joints and dust covers
  • Inspect brake lines and hoses
  • 4WD: Inspect rear differential oil and transfer case oil
  • 4WD: Re-torque propeller shaft bolt

Note: You’ll also need to have your engine oil and oil filter changed if 0W-20 oil wasn’t used the last time you had an oil change.

Every 30,000 miles / 36 Months

  • Inspect fuel tank cap gasket
  • Replace engine air filter
  • Inspect fuel lines and connections, fuel tank band, and fuel tank vapor vent system hoses

Every 60,000 miles / 72 Months

If your Toyota Highlander has a 3.5L V6 engine, you will need to have the spark plugs replaced at this time. Not sure which engine your Highlander has? Don’t hesitate to contact our service department in Eatontown!
